Hello there,
It is officially spring and so much has happened at the barn! Our Friendship Series season opener last Saturday was a great success with over 50 entrants. So far this year we have the highest number of members we have ever had! Thank you to everyone for their support and friendship. It was a fun day in spite of a few weather related issues. The Shortacres and Big Dog contingent was in full force-you guys ROCK! And, we had some fantastic derby hats! Congratulation to Claudia Brown for her most creative and winning hat. Special mention to Heidi Curley with her handmade rose hat that classed up the place. Thank you to the hard working Battle Ground High School Equestrian Team volunteers who supplied all the cafe and ring staff for a fund raising effort.
Other happenings:
Kathy Everman was just here for another inspiring and enriching dressage clinic. We hope to have her back this summer.
Jane Fennessy, Carriage Hill Farm in Del Ray Beach, Florida will be conducting her first west coast clinic here on May 30-31 for hunters and jumpers. Call the office for details and her bio or google her farm to check out her website. Jane is a very successful south Florida trainer who runs with the big dogs at the WEF, Devon and qualifies riders for the east coast indoor shows. She trains from the S/S's to the 2nd years and A/O's and jumpers up to GP's. We are really looking forward to having her here.
Most of all we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Julia Kubicek back from her stint in Florida in less than 2 weeks. We have a full-schedule for her to begin training and coaching here at the Q and lots of big plans.
Julia brings a wealth of experience from her junior hunter years competing at Madison Square Gardens in the Macleay Finals (9th in the nation) to her years as a successful trainer in Del Mar, CA and Vancouver. Other credentials include qualifying and coaching riders to hunter and equitation finals including zone finals and National Pony Finals at the Kentucky Horse Park. Those of you who don't know Julia are in for a treat. She brings the most focused energy and creative exercises to her lessons and training. She constantly reads, clinics and networks for fresh ideas to bring to her life's work. On top of all that she is fun, fun, FUN and I am proud to call her one of my best friends.
We are full-steam ahead on property improvements. We have new fencing, bridge crossings, log jumps and brush clearing for the upcoming Quarry Ridge Overland Hunter course. Our next show is Saturday August 1.
Please let me know if you would like to see some other content or just your thoughts/ideas about our lives with horses.
Happy Riding,
Julia

November 19, 2009
Hello there,
We have had a wonderful start to Fall. The Halloween party was alot of fun and John's magic show was fantastic-the kids were enchanted.
After our family tropical vacation we hit the ground running to prepare for the 2nd Annual Friendship Series Awards Supper. We had a wonderful turnout of over 140 people! The evening was filled with food, fun, a great and lively auction, the awards ceremony and of course friendship. Get your 2009 membership in early before rates go up March 1, 2009.
This years' awards were leather halters and award coolers. The recipients were thrilled! Thank you to Gallops for donating the brass halter plates.
As our support continues to grow we are asking for volunteers to help with membership and points tabulation this year. It has gotten too much for just DeeAnna and I. Please contact us at the barn office 360.666.4762. It is not alot of work and we won't abuse you, pinky swear! C'mon we are a super fun group. Just an hour or 2 at one of the shows would be a great help.
Thank you also to Laurie Freeman Swanson for her help at the supper! Here are her show dates for 2009, May 23 and 24; Aug. 8 and 9. All Friendship members we must attend her shows if you want to see them continue.
The Quarry Ridge dates are: May 2, Aug 1, Oct 3rd.
Hope to see you there!
The Woodbrook Hunt's annual "Blessing of the Hounds" is Thanksgiving weekend and a group from Quarry Ridge is riding rain or shine. Tally Ho! Happy Thanksgiving to the Quarry Ridge family and to all.
Next up at Quarry Ridge is the Kathy Everman Dressage Clinic on Dec 6 & 7. Please come and audit for free ($5 for lunch) and see how lovely and light Kathy gets our hunters and jumpers going (with us doing the riding!). Gain insight into your riding. She is an excellent teacher and makes it very digestible. The clinic is sold out, but get your reservation in early for the spring clinic.
When dates are firm we will announce the rescheduling of Julia Kubicek's clinic. Those who were registered get first priority to ride slots.
Our barn Christmas party at Big Al's bowling center is on! Get out your bowling shirts folks. Date and time will follow upon confirmation. Be ready for the wild and woolly gift exchange. It is always a study in human nature! Should we make Verne sing or do a stand-up routine?
That is all for now.
Happy Riding,
Julia

News/Events
Welcome to my first blog posting!
The barn is gearing up for our next Friendship Series show on Oct. 4. We added some fun classes this time that will benefit Project Contact's Fasting for the Hungry. Quarry Ridge's own Sam Richard along with former NBA star Kermit Washington will be staging a pledge driven 5 day fast held on the Quad at American University in Washington D.C. They hope to raise enough funds and awareness to feed 2 million people. Project Contact founded by Kermit Washington and medically directed by Sam Richard is a grass roots non-political non-religious charity that provides medical services in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Starting with a street clinic 14 years ago it now has a free-standing full-service medical clinic. Entry fees collected from these classes will be donated to Project Contact. Anyone wishing to sponsor Sam in his quest to fast would be gratefully accepted. I am grateful he is fasting on the other end of the country! :-)
This is the last Friendship Series show of the season. We are also trying to schedule our every other year Halloween party as the pumpkin patch is ripening fast. More on that later. Do I have any volunteers?
The next event is Opening Day of foxhunting with the Woodbrook Hunt Club in Tacoma on Oct. 26. Doc is staying home for that one.
In November we have the grand Julia Kubicek returning from Florida to conduct a 2 day clinic here at Quarry Ridge Nov. 14 & 15 and she will be the honored guest at our Friendship Series 2nd annual awards supper on Sunday Nov 16 4-7 pm at the Manor Grange Hall in Battle Ground.
December 6 & 7 we are hosting another Kathy Everman Dressage Clinic. Slots are filling fast. Contact us in the office if you are interested, but don't delay.
CONGRATULATIONS to Diane Leonard on her purchase of the fabulous Norm. They both are very lucky to have each other. Best of luck to Corinna as she embarks on her first year of showing on Captain.
Thank you Cafeindesign for our new and very beautiful website.
Please join in on our blog to make things more interesting that just me, myself and I.
